I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Cornea Specialist with over 29 years of clinical and surgical experience, including 20 years of practice at consultant level. I trained in the United Kingdom and completed advanced subspecialty training in cornea and glaucoma at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion in Edinburgh, in addition to obtaining multiple postgraduate qualifications from leading UK institutions.
I have performed more than 1,000 corneal transplants, including penetrating, lamellar, and endothelial keratoplasty techniques, alongside a high volume cataract and anterior segment surgical practice, with over 5,000 cataract procedures using monofocal and premium intraocular lens implants. My clinical expertise also includes complex ocular surface reconstruction, glaucoma surgery, and anterior segment reconstruction.
Since 2014, I have led corneal services within SEHA in Abu Dhabi, where I played a key role in developing and expanding corneal transplant services. This included the establishment of a new corneal transplant program at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, where I served as Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology until late 2024.
In parallel with my clinical practice, I hold adjunct clinical professorships at Gulf Medical University, serve as an international examiner for the FRCS and Arab Board examinations, and actively contribute to postgraduate training programs. My research work includes numerous peer reviewed publications in leading ophthalmology journals, with a focus on corneal disease, glaucoma and cataract surgery.
