Nursing Department

Nursing Department

At SEHA Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, our Nursing Department is the cornerstone of compassionate, evidence-based care. We are proud to lead the way in delivering world-class healthcare services that prioritise patient safety, quality outcomes, and holistic well-being. Our nurses are highly skilled professionals dedicated to excellence and innovation in clinical practice, education, and research.

SEHA SKMC Nursing Philosophy

We believe nursing care includes the promotion of good health and prevention of illness as well as care for the sick or well individuals and their families.

We believe that patients, their families, and caregivers are at the centre of all we do and are our reason for being; this understanding guides our attitudes and core values.
We aim to provide compassionate, evidence-based care for which we accept accountability and which acknowledges and respects the personal, spiritual, and cultural values of every patient. We believe the best way to achieve this is by working with the patient, the family, and caregiver and actively listening to what they say.

We also believe in working closely with other professionals to achieve exceptional patient and family-focused care which makes best use of the resources we have, as we endeavour to improve the quality of life for all.

We constantly strive to improve the art and science of nursing and believe that shared governance, excellent nursing care, and innovation are inspired in an environment which promotes healthy interpersonal relationships, encourages research, education, lifelong learning, reward, and recognition.

Our Magnet Journey – Our Future Goal

SEHA SKMC started Magnet Journey 2025, the highest international honour for nursing excellence. This goal reflects our dedication to:

  • Professional nursing practice
  • Quality patient care
  • Continuous improvement and innovation

Magnet designation will further strengthen our culture of nursing excellence and position SKMC as a leader in patient-centred care.

In July 2021, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) proudly achieved the prestigious Pathway to Excellence® designation, becoming the first healthcare institution in the Middle East to earn this distinguished recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This milestone validates SKMC’s commitment to nursing excellence and positions the organization as a regional leader in healthcare quality and professional practice standards.

Building on this success, SKMC reached another historic milestone in October 2025 by achieving Pathway to Excellence® redesignation with distinction—an honor that reflects sustained excellence, innovation, and dedication to creating an empowering work environment for nurses.

Throughout our evolution, SKMC has remained dedicated to clinical excellence, evidence-based practice, and creating a supportive environment where nursing professionals can thrive. This history of strategic growth and quality improvement positions us ideally for Pathway to Excellence designation as we continue advancing healthcare delivery in Abu Dhabi and beyond.

Professional Practice Model

Our nursing practice is guided by a Patient-Centred Care Model, ensuring that every decision and intervention prioritises the needs, preferences, and dignity of our patients. We foster a culture of shared governance, empowering nurses to participate in decision-making and contribute to organisational success.
