Dr. Shanawaz Hussain graduated from St. Andrews and the University of Glasgow School of Medicine, UK. He completed his initial training at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow, followed by a pediatric residency in the Yorkshire Deanery. Selected for specialized training in Pediatric Neurology, he pursued his training at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, where he earned his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2018. Subsequently, he was appointed as a Consultant Pediatric Neurologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, a major tertiary healthcare center, and also served as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds.
Dr. Hussain has a strong interest in complex epilepsy, epilepsy genetics, vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), neuroinflammation, neurometabolic disorders, and leukodystrophy. He is passionate about improving outcomes for children with neurological disorders, particularly in resource-limited settings. He is a member of the British Pediatric Neurology Association (BPNA) and is affiliated with various specialist interest groups in epilepsy and neuroinflammatory conditions.
