About Me

Dr Wajid Jawaid graduated from the University of Aberdeen, UK having received the George Thompson bursary, Leslie Durno prize in anatomy and the McWillie prize in Science. He went on to complete basic surgical training at Leicester and Birmingham in the UK before embarking on higher surgical training in Paediatric Surgery at Alder Hey Children’s hospital and Royal Manchester Children’s hospital. Subsequently he successfully secured a highly competitive Wellcome Trust fellowship and completed a MPhil in computational biology with distinction and a PhD into uncovering causes of developmental anomalies in newborn children for which he was awarded the Beddington Medal in 2020 – both at the University of Cambridge, UK.

Dr Wajid completed is higher surgical training at Cambridge, Great Ormond Street Hospital London, Evelina Children’s Hospital London (Guy’s) training in highly complex neonatal and paediatric surgery including paediatric urology. He then went on to work as a specialised minimally invasive thoracic surgical fellow at Cambridge, UK before taking up a consultant post in Oxford, UK. Here he expanded his surgical skills including complex urology. Just before coming to SKMC Dr Wajid Jawaid helped develop paediatric surgery and urology at both Luton & Dunstable Hospital and Bedford Hospital.
