Dr. Massimo Cristaldi graduated cum laude in Medicine in 1990 at University of Milan and completed residency program in General and Gastroenterological Surgery in the Central University Hospital in Milan. Before being appointed a staff surgeon and lecturer in Surgery at Luigi Sacco University Hospital in Milan he completed Fellowship in GI surgery in the same institution, specializing in the treatment of gastro-intestinal condition with particular focus on diseases of the large intestine. He received training in minimally invasive colorectal surgery, which became part of his routine practice since 1998. In 2003 he moved to UK as Consultant Colorectal Surgeon being appointed at Oxford Radcliffe University Hospital NHS trust. While in post, Dr. Cristaldi was part of the Oxford Colorectal Unit with 5 other consultants specializing the treatment of colorectal cancer and inflammatory dowel disease.
In 2010 he joined Sheikh Khalifa Medical City where he established a colorectal unit taking care of neoplastic and benign ano-rectal conditions. In 2015 he initiated his own specialized practice in coloproctology and pelvic floor unit. During his career he authored more than 30 scientific articles on some of most internationally renowned peer-reviewed journals. During his previous appointment he was chairman of various surgical initiatives as expert in surgical quality improvement and infection control prevention. He holds an appointment as senior surgical advisor in medical litigation and complaint management in the Department of Health Abu Dhabi
