SEHA Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC)is a leader in medical innovation and has introduced many “firsts” in the UAE. We are home to the country’s first Transplant Center and are the only provider of paediatric transplant services in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Our Cardiac Sciences program is the largest for children in the region and includes the only Paediatric Cardiac Surgery Program in Abu Dhabi. We also manage a Biosafety Level 3 Laboratory (BSL3), highlighting our commitment to research, safety, and advanced diagnostics.

As the largest paediatric medical center in the UAE, SEHA Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) offers a wide range of specialized services designed just for our youngest patients. SEHA SKMC is widely recognized as a national referral hub for advanced pediatric care. It’s the only facility in Abu Dhabi offering a full range of pediatric subspecialties under one roof. With the largest Pediatric Emergency Department and the largest Pediatric Critical Care Unit in the UAE, children receive timely, specialized attention in a safe and comforting environment. The hospital’s dedicated Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Program is the only one of its kind in the Emirate, performing over 5,000 congenital heart surgeries since 2007.

SEHA Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) was established in 2005 through a powerful vision—to bring together all public healthcare facilities on Abu Dhabi Island into one unified, world-class institution. The result was a dynamic and integrated healthcare system that reflects the best of what Abu Dhabi can offer in medical care. This transformation merged seven different entities, each with its own legacy.
Built in the 1960s, it was the city’s first hospital with 200 beds. It later served as an emergency center and dialysis unit.
A 120-bed mental health facility that laid the groundwork for today’s Behavioral Sciences Pavilion.
An 88-bed center supporting elderly and special needs patients.
A 300-bed acute care hospital built in the 1970s, mainly serving expatriates on Abu Dhabi Island.
