Cystic Fibrosis Center of Excellence

The Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Center at SKMC is a dedicated facility that provides specialized care for children and adults with cystic fibrosis, a genetically inherited disorder that primarily affects the lungs but may also involve the pancreas, liver, kidneys, and intestines. SKMC’s CF Center employs a multidisciplinary approach that includes pulmonologists, dietitians, respiratory therapists, and other specialists to manage both pulmonary and non-pulmonary manifestations of cystic fibrosis.

Comprehensive CF Services

  • Early Diagnosis and Genetic Counseling: Advanced genetic testing and sweat chloride analysis to confirm CF diagnosis.
  • Pulmonary Function and Sputum Analysis: Monitoring lung function and assessing for bacterial infections.
  • Multisystem Evaluation: Assessment of other organ systems affected by CF, including the pancreas, liver, and intestines.
  • Targeted Pharmacological Treatment: Use of advanced CF therapies such as gene-modifying treatments, mucolytics, and inhaled antibiotics to manage the condition effectively.
